This privacy policy explains how lottoresults.nz collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit the website. We follow New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles. lottoresults.nz is an information site about lottery games. We do not run any games, and we do not handle player accounts, tickets or payments.
In short: we collect as little information about you as we can. We use no advertising networks, no behavioural tracking, no newsletter and no analytics tools such as Google Analytics. The only information we handle is what you choose to send us by email, plus a small amount of technical data needed to run the website securely.
Who is responsible for your information
lottoresults.nz is represented by the website’s owner, who is the agency responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
If you have questions about how we handle your information, or want to make a privacy request, please reach us through our contact page.
What personal information we collect
We collect the following types of personal information.
Information you send us by email
When you email us, we handle:
- your email address
- your name, if you give it
- the content of your message
- anything else you choose to tell us
Giving us this information is voluntary. If you do not provide an email address, we simply cannot reply to you.
Technical information collected automatically
When you visit the website, some technical information is collected automatically through our hosting provider, Hetzner, and our security service, Cloudflare:
- IP address, used to deliver pages and protect against misuse
- browser type and version
- operating system
- referring page (the page you came from)
- time of your visit
- pages viewed on the website
This information comes from server logs and necessary cookies. It is used only to keep the website running and to protect it from technical attacks. We do not use it to build a profile of you as a visitor.
We do not collect sensitive personal information, and the website is not aimed at anyone under 18.
Cookies
We use necessary cookies only. These are needed for the website to work and to be delivered securely. Because we only use necessary cookies, the site does not need a cookie consent banner.
The necessary cookies come from:
- Cloudflare, for security and delivery (for example, telling people apart from bots)
- LiteSpeed Cache, for caching that makes pages load faster
- WordPress, for core functions of the website
We do not use:
- Google Analytics or any other analytics tool
- advertising cookies or behavioural tracking
- social media plugins that track visitors
- affiliate or marketing trackers
- third-party cookies beyond the technical services listed above
You can delete existing cookies and block future ones in your browser settings at any time. Bear in mind that this can affect how the website works. You will find more detail in our cookie policy.
Why we collect and use your information
We only collect personal information for a lawful purpose connected with running this website, and only what that purpose needs. The table shows what we use and why.
| Purpose | Information used |
|---|---|
| Replying to messages you send us | Email address, name and message content |
| Running and delivering the website | Technical information in server logs, necessary cookies |
| Security and protection against misuse (through Cloudflare) | IP address and technical information |
| Understanding how the site performs in search (through Google Search Console) | Aggregated, anonymous search data only, with nothing that identifies you |
| Meeting legal obligations | Whatever the law specifically requires in the individual case |
We do not use your information for any other purpose unless you have agreed to it or the Privacy Act 2020 allows it.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for:
- Email enquiries: up to three years after our last contact, then deleted, unless the law requires us to keep them longer
- Server logs at Hetzner: normally deleted automatically after 14 to 30 days
- Cloudflare security logs: normally kept for around 30 days
- Necessary cookies: from session cookies, which disappear when you close your browser, to up to one year for Cloudflare’s security cookies
We delete or anonymise information once it is no longer needed.
Sharing your information and our service providers
We never sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing. A small number of service providers handle information on our behalf so that the website can operate:
- Hetzner Online GmbH (hosting) handles server logs and IP addresses as part of the hosting service. Location: Germany (EU). Privacy policy
- Cloudflare, Inc. (security and delivery) handles IP addresses and technical information. Location: United States, with servers worldwide. Privacy policy
- Google LLC (Search Console) provides us with aggregated, anonymous search data. Location: United States. Privacy policy
These providers hold and process information for us and may not use it for their own purposes. We remain responsible for it under the Privacy Act 2020.
In rare cases we may be required to hand information to a public authority, for example under a court order or another legal requirement.
Information held outside New Zealand
Our service providers store and process information outside New Zealand: Hetzner in Germany, and Cloudflare and Google in the United States and other countries where they operate servers.
Sending information overseas does not change our obligations. We choose established providers with their own security and privacy commitments, and we stay accountable for your information wherever it is held. Germany is covered by the European Union’s data protection rules, which give protection comparable to New Zealand’s.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, unauthorised access, alteration and disclosure:
- HTTPS encryption across the whole website
- Cloudflare’s security infrastructure, including DDoS protection, a web application firewall and bot management
- Regular updates of WordPress, plugins and themes
- Restricted access to the administration system
- Secure hosting with Hetzner, which is ISO 27001 certified
- Secure storage of email correspondence
If a privacy breach causes serious harm, or is likely to, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected as soon as practicable, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you
- access the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information you believe is wrong, and have a statement of the correction you asked for attached to it if we do not agree to the change
You can also ask us to delete your email correspondence, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.
To use your rights, contact us through the contact page. There is no charge. We will respond as soon as we reasonably can, and no later than 20 working days after receiving your request. We may need to confirm your identity first, so that information is not given to the wrong person.
Complaints to the Privacy Commissioner
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so that we have the chance to put things right.
If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, which is New Zealand’s privacy regulator:
